Pyrenean mountain dog/Great Pyrenees

Kennel z Lesa Čárskeho

In this section, you will find our dogs that currently form the breeding pack used for herd protection. This young 5-member pack consists of one male and two females imported directly from the Pyrenees, raised on a traditional sheep farm, and a male and female from a long-time experienced breeder from Slovakia (with sheep from 8 weeks old). This young pack of dogs protects the sheep 24 hours a day.

During the summer period, some of these dogs are used for protection in their natural high-mountain environment at an altitude of 1,300 m above sea level. During the time our pack of Pyrenean Mountain Dogs has been working, there have been no losses or injuries to sheep from predators so far.

Jayla Lisey from Pyrlandia

confirmed; born: 1.12.2021; FCI

Jayla is our first dog that we acquired. Given her age and the fact that she had no one to learn from, she has handled her role with ease, and to this day, she is the leader of the pack. She is a very intelligent, distrustful, and temperamental female who has the highest success rate in repelling birds of prey. Her speed and natural instinct to guard make her a valuable and indispensable part of the pack. She brims with intelligence that is often too high for her own good. However, we would never trade her for anything. Her father, Miralles du Mas de Beauvoisin, was a very famous and attractive dog in our region. Jayla and her siblings, however, were the last litter of his breeding career, and we are glad that we can thus continue his legacy. Jayla has already had two litters and has proven to be a very caring mother, which did not surprise us given her care for the rest of the pack. Jayla is now on a longer breeding break, and it is likely that we will not breed her anymore.

It is worth checking out her pedigree and other information, which you can find at the following link.

Soleil monde de Kaïku Borda

confirmed; born: 20.12.2021; FCI

Soleil Monde, which translates to “sunny world,” is truly our little sunshine with an extremely cheerful temperament. He was born on a traditional sheep farm directly in the Pyrenees and spent time with sheep from the very first day he came into the world. He is a very quiet dog, which is highly desirable around sheep because he doesn’t make unnecessary noise that could stress them, affecting their lactation as well. People say that sheep are generally accustomed to the barking of these dogs and don’t pay attention to it at all. However, imagine if someone was constantly yapping right next to you—wouldn’t it get on your nerves over time, or would you stop being able to distinguish real danger? This dog is excellent at knowing when it’s truly worth barking, which I greatly admire about him.

Solo is a dog who loves people very much, which is one reason we chose this breed. We wanted to breed dogs that prevent losses of livestock without us having to fear they might attack humans, like a passing tourist or someone, unless they are clearly threatening the herd or entering their designated territory. Even then, we’re confident they would first hold the person in place rather than act immediately. I assure you, though, that with their presence and size, no one would even dare.

Soleil is a truly pleasant dog and is very popular among people as well as sheep. In our pack, he was once the leader alongside Jayla as a pair, until our other dog outgrew him to take the top male position in the hierarchy—though Soleil still commands respect among the other dogs and strives to handle situations.

Kai Harvey from Pyrlandia

confirmed; born: 6.3.2022; FCI;
show titles: 1xCAC,CACIB;
ED:0/0; HD:A/A; PL:negative/negative
shoulder height: 77 cm

Kai Harvey is a dog with an amazing pedigree, which is reflected not only in his temperament but also in his appearance and size. He is a dog with steady nerves, determination to guard, and a beautiful, spacious movement. He has a natural talent for showing. With him, I can be sure there will be no shyness or aggression. Wherever you place him, he will stand there. He is a dog who reacts to every new movement and stimulus while guarding. He also stands out with his size and thickness. He is truly an imposing dog who, thanks to his qualities and exterior, managed to earn the CACIB title right at his first international show. He was born to an experienced breeder, for whom I am very grateful for this mating. Given that all our dogs are completely different, he is a huge asset and complements our pack. His calm nature allows us to keep multiple males at once, which is really not easy but highly desirable for herd protection. Kai is a very popular dog, both among people and animals. He is the best friend of our Border Collie, with whom he grew up, and it’s almost comical to see what he allows her thanks to their friendship.

Umeed de Kaïku Borda

confirmed; born: 11.6.2023; FCI
show titles: 1xBOB,CACIB,CAC;
HD:A/A

Umeed, which translates from Uzbek and Hindi as “hope,” describes her accordingly. Umeed has truly become the hope for taking our pack to the next level. Given Jayla’s intelligence and excitability, I hoped for a female who could fulfill the pack leader role with less stress. Midi has already convinced us of this and is well on her way to becoming the leader of our pack.

Umeed came to us with her sister directly from the Pyrenees from a traditional sheep farm, from which their not-direct uncle Soleil monde also originates. Soleil’s parents are in Umeed’s and Ursi’s pedigree as their great-grandparents.

Midi is a very pleasant and cuddly female, but she can also be very sharp and commands enormous respect from the rest of the pack. The reason we decided to repeat the import directly from the Pyrenees from this specific farm is that these are typical working dogs that are more narrow in exterior and wolf-like. At the same time, their way of working with the herd is truly unique and has proven most effective here in our home in terms of responsibility. A responsible dog will always stay close to the herd.

We are pleased to announce that Umeed is successful both in her working life and in the show ring, where at the last international exhibition she won the titles BOB, CACIB, and CAC. Due to her friendly nature, Midi is also popular among judges.

Ursi de Kaïku Borda

confirmed; born: 11.6.2023; FCI
HD:A/A

Ursi has resembled a little bear cub since she was a puppy, which ties into her name. Ursus = Latin for bear. She was one of the largest puppies in the litter, and together with her sister, they now have a shoulder height of around 75 cm, which is more than their uncle Soleil. Ursi has a very cheerful and submissive temperament, which suits our pack perfectly. She has no problem submitting to the females higher in the hierarchy and can turn any conflict into play. This ability is very attractive to me and once again shows how beautifully the pack complements each other.
